Itinerary

Day 01
AM Transfer to railway station in Delhi for express train to Amritsar, the largest city in the State of Punjab, founded 400 years ago by the 4th Sikh Guru. The city takes its name from 'Amrit' meaning nectar and 'Sar' meaning pool.

PM excursion to Wagah, an army outpost on Indo-Pak border, 28 kms from Amritsar. The daily highlight is the sundown "Beating the Retreat" ceremony wherein the changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags is carried out with great pomp.

Day 02 AM visit the main attraction of the city, the Hari Mandir or Darbar Sahib Gurdwara, the holiest of holy shrines for the Sikhs. The domes of the temple are covered with 400 kg of gold leaf, hence giving it its popularly name: Golden Temple. The temple complex has a number of shrines of historical importance, notably the Akal Takhat (throne of the Timeless God) where the Sikh Parliament traditionally meets and the 9-storey Baba Atal Tower.

Also visit the nearby Jallianwala Bagh, a poignant memorial of the Freedom Movement. This was the site of a brutal massacre of over 2000 innocent unarmed people, on the orders of British General Dyer on April 13, 1919. The bullet-scarred walls of the well-kept garden today, enclose a memorial with an eternal flame, dedicated to the martyrs.

PM transfer to the railway station to board express train back to Delhi. On arrival departure for onward journey
